Enterprises that need to generate and manage catalogs for their IT services to be used in AWS will find great mileage with AWS Service Catalog. This service lets you control all your deployed products, which can include virtual machine images, EC2 instances, storage volumes, servers, software, databases, or packaged AWS products. It also allows users to rapidly deploy the services they need.
Why Use AWS Service Catalog
Helps with Compliance with Standards – with this service you can control which IT services and versions are available, their configurations, and permission access to them according to individual, group, department and cost center, all in one place.
- Rapidly Find and Deploy Approved Services – this service lets you create a catalog of AWS IT services and software, ready for your organization to use. Using a portal, colleagues and employees alike may rapidly discover and deploy these IT services.
- Control IT Service Lifecycle in Just One Place – Service Catalog allows users to add new versions of IT services and send notifications to users so they are aware of any updates. The service lets you create constraints to control how IT services are used, e.g. what AWS region it can be launched, what IP ranges it may use.
- Connect with ITSM/ITOM Tools – You can connect AWS Service Catalog with IT Service Management Tools (ITSM) for ITSM platform users to easily request AWS services and resources. The AWS Service Catalog Connector for ServiceNow make AWS product provisioning simple while giving ServiceNow administrators governance and oversight over AWS products.
There is a fixed monthly rate of $5 for every portfolio of products you make, a portfolio being a group of products with its configuration. A portfolio can have any number of products or attached users. The charge occurs on the day after you assign a user to the portfolio, and one the first day of each following month.
